Trout Creek Canyon

The bridge across Trout Creek canyon was the highest bridge on the Kettle Valley Railway.

Trout Creek Canyon and the bridge crossing it, is one of the more reknown locations on the Kettle Valley Railway. The updated version of this bridge survives today and is part of the historic Kettle Valley trail system.

One of the more famous stories of this bridge was told by Murdock McKay who worked with Andrew McCulloch in the construction of the bridge. He tells of chief McCulloch being unhappy with the surveying done on the original Trout Creek bridge plans. McCulloch was not one to give in easily - he took young Murdoch McKay out with him and resurveyed the entire canyon and surrounding terrain in one day. McKay told this story many years later to illustrate Andrew McCulloch's skill and dedication. After they had resurveyed when the final span was put into place, it was only one quarter of an inch short of a perfect fit. Once the sun warmed up the steel it expanded and fit perfectly.
