  • Maintenance

    Description

    As a volunteer handy person you will be involved with restoration work and repairs all over the SS Sicamous, and the ships of the heritage park. You will be an integral part of the team, and we will put your valuable skills and experience to good use.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assist with woodworking, mechanical, painting or electrical work.

    • Lends knowledge, skills and advice for the project at hand.

    • Assist with cleaning and general maintenance

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • Work well under direction of Staff and Crew

    • Interest in acquiring and sharing knowledge about the ship.

    • Experience with a trade would be a huge asset, but we will train for the general labor aspects.

  • KVR Model Railway

    Description

    The KVR Model Railway crew is an active group. Members meet weekly on Tuesday evenings to collaborate and play, but share in the responsibility of ensuring that guests on board during the museums open times enjoy a scenic, interactive and working experience. Our model railway spans over 700 sq feet and has several tracks. It represents the actual path of the KVR Railway as it was in the early 1950’s.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Welcome visitors and answer questions about the railway display

    • Be willing to take responsibility for a 2 - 4 hour shift during open hours and special events

    • Attend weekly meetings as often as possible

    • Have an interest in trains, electronics, display creation or the history of this valley

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • An interest in and willingness to learn about the history of the Okanagan.

    • Interest in acquiring and sharing knowledge about the KVR history.

    • Experience a plus, but training will be provided for care and maintenance of the railway

  • Front Desk Volunteer

    Description

    Working as a Museum/Gift Shop Volunteer, you will provide information about the SS Sicamous, assist with tourism information requests, and general inquiries. You may also assist with office duties or provide guided tours for visitors. As a Front Desk Helper you will be the first point of contact for visitors, and so an important part of your role will be greeting people and making them feel welcome.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Welcome visitors and provide exceptional customer service

    • Help visitors with tourism information

    • Orient visitors to admission policy and layout of the ship.

    • Provide help by answering incoming telephone calls and relaying to staff

    • Processing admissions and tracking visitor analytics

    • Assist with administrative duties and gift shop tasks

    • You may also help with guided tours of the ship (training provided).

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • An interest in and willingness to learn about the history of the Okanagan.

    • Interest in acquiring and sharing knowledge about the ship.

    • Experience with gift shop procedures or admin duties (such as using Microsoft excel) are an asset.
