Historical Interpreter

This position is funded by the Service Canada Summer Jobs Program

The SS Sicamous Heritage Park is seeking an organised and hard-working student between the ages of 15 and 30 to fill the position of Restoration Assistant this summer. You will be responsible for various restoration and maintenance activities in and around the Heritage Park, as well as greeting members of the public and working in the gift shop.

The ideal candidate possesses excellent verbal communication skills, and an outstanding work ethic. The candidate must have been registered as a full-time student in the 2013/2014 academic year, and intend to return to school on a full time basis in 2014/2015.

Wage: $12/hour

Employee Status: Temporary full time (Jun 23rd to September 1st ).

Duties and responsibilities:

Undertaking restoration work, under the guidance of professionals and volunteers.

Working Outdoors in the Heritage Park

Talking with visitors, and sharing the history of the heritage park.

Conducting visitor surveys

Working on the front desk, and in the gift shop.

Assisting with special events

Qualifications:

The candidate must have been registered as a full-time student in the 2013/2014 academic year, and intend to return to school on a full time basis in 2014/2015.

Demonstrate an interest in Canadian history

An ability to work well with members of the public

Hard working, and happy to work out doors.

Experience with cleaning and housekeeping responsibilities.

Preferred (but not essential)

Class 5 driver’s license

A second language

Experience with Microsoft Excel (including the use of formulas).
